Before purchasing an air compressor pump, learn the size first by knowing the tools you plan to use. The air requirement indicator is in Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM). Some equipment consumes more than the required ones than others; for example, the staplers consume smaller amounts while sprayers consume larger ones. You can find the usage rating for CFM consumption of the equipment at a recommended PSI in the equipment manual provided by the manufacturer. Use this CFM to decide the size of product you need. You need to find such a tool that requires the largest CFM if only one tool will be used. If more than one tool is used at a time, add up the largest CFM to smallest.
Another important thing to know is that you should use Delivered or Free CFM Rating for Compressors instead of Displaced CFM. To properly size the right product, you need to learn that Delivered CFM is different to Displaced CFM. Displaced CFM produces CFM through a compressor that works in an ideal environment and at 100% efficiency, and this rating can be misleading as no tool has ever made get 100% efficient, does not matter how new it is. Hence, you should ensure to go by Delivered CFM by taking the required CFM and then add 20%. This result is used to make your selection of the right size you need. Be consistent with the new CFM with the Delivered CFM rating one.

When selecting the best air compressor pump you need, you do not have to deal with the horsepower rating as it does not really matter. When such a product is built, it needs an engine to power the whole producing process. The horsepower is not the only component of the equivalence since it needs to be combined with the tool so that it produces the result needed. Bigger horsepower does not essentially mean more air. Instead, you have to keep your required CFM in mind. Horsepower does not make the tool run more efficiently, it works with a quality tool in unity to produce enough CFM. When purchasing this product, make sure that you search for the running horsepower instead of the peak horsepower at startup. Some products have been falsely implied or advertised the peak horsepower is the standard run horsepower. At start-up, there is a flow of power the compressor needs to start the motor, and the flow of power can reach up to three times of running power amount needed. It means that the horsepower is needed for the motor peaks, but after that it will drop back down to normal.
After you find the correct size for the product you need, the next thing you should consider is the voltage it has to run on. Most electric ones run on the standard 110-volt circuit. However, you had better considered for a product with a dual-voltage option, 110-volt and 220-volt, so that you can switch them on depending on the available power supply. You also have to know the power supply you have; whether it is 208 V, 230 V, or 460 V, and whether it is a single or three phase power. In case of there is no power supply available, or it is too far away from the place you will keep the product, you probably need to consider using a gas powered compressor, which are set up with an unloaded valve system as the engine cannot stop and start up again automatically.
